Symbols of the coat of arms


Swordfish Aeroplane – Represents the production of the Fairey Swordfish at Sherburn-in-Elmet and the areas aviation history.

 

Windmill – Represents the farming history of the village and the two (possibly more?) windmills that were situated in the now, village centre.

Teasel – Represents the early teasel trade that the village was famous for. Crown – Represents King Athelstan.

The middle band – Is the same as that in the Hungate coat of arms, as seen on the old Hungate hospital.

Silhouettes – The Old Girls School and All Saints Church which are both Sherburn landmarks and key historic buildings in the village.
